Proposals to quarry stone on farmland are facing strong opposition from residents.
Leaders of Derbyshire County Council are expected to make a decision on the plans for Moorhay Farm in Wigley near Chesterfield on Monday.
Opponents say the 12-year scheme will ruin the character of the area.
The farm's owners want to quarry grit stone slates, which are a traditional roofing material in Derbyshire.
English Heritage says there is a shortage of the material, which makes it difficult to maintain the character of areas like the Peak District Park when buildings are restored or repaired.
Residents say the quarry will be a source of noise, dust and extra traffic.
