Petty vandalism is costing a Derbyshire council thousands of pounds which it says should be funding improvements to public services.
Amber Valley Borough Council has had to spend more than £66,000 on cleaning up graffiti and other types of vandalism in the last year.
It has resulted in planned maintenance work for other areas of the borough having to be put on hold.
Leader of the council, Alan Cox, said it was frustrating for everyone on the authority.
"It is only the mindless few who are causing this and they are spoiling it for the vast majority of the inhabitants of the borough.
"Most people value the towns, value the borough but there are just a few who cannot respect other people's property.
