Councillors want to make buses commercially viable again

Buses will return to part of Kendal town centre in Cumbria on Tuesday, following the completion of a pedestrianisation project in the town.
New bus shelters have been installed along Stricklandgate and buses will be running again from stops at the town hall and Westmorland Shopping Centre.
Services have been restricted since 8 March while work was carried out to widen pavements and raise kerbs.
The improvements follow a deal to retain passenger services in Kendal.
New town centre services, subsidised by Cumbria County Council and designed after consultation with local people, have been running since 3 April.
It is hoped that the return of buses to Stricklandgate will further improve the already impressive performance of the new services.
