Two men in court over rail deaths

Mark Connolly and Roy Kennett are charged with manslaughter

Two men have appeared in court charged with manslaughter following a rail accident in which four people died.

Mark Connolly, 43, from Anglesey, North Wales, and Roy Kennett, 27, of Maidstone, Kent, were each charged with four counts of manslaughter.

Four men were killed when they were hit by a flatbed trailer while working on a section of the West Coast Main Line at Tebay, Cumbria on 15 February 2004.

The two accused will appear before Carlisle Crown Court on 10 November.

They were released on unconditional bail at Kendal Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Mr Connolly also faces a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice and three charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Mr Kennett has also been charged with one offence under the Health & Safety at Work Act.

Colin Buckley, 49, of Carnforth, Lancashire; Darren Burgess, 30, also of Carnforth; Chris Waters, 53, of Morecambe, Lancashire; and Gary Tindall, 46, of Tebay, all died in the accident.
