Cameras deter speeding drivers
Mobile speed cameras in Cumbria
Cameras will be placed at almost 50 locations
Police in Cumbria are using mobile cameras to encourage drivers to stop speeding.

High powered cameras are being placed at some of the county's accident hotspots.

Motorists found speeding will be fined, but officers say the aim is to make people aware the cameras are there.

The Cumbria Road Casualty Reduction Partnership has been formed to help cut the number of people killed and seriously injured on the counties' roads by 15% over a three year period.

The mobile cameras will be operated by police officers at 47 locations that account for more than 75% of all reported injury collisions in Cumbria.

Project manager Steve Callaghan, said: "It must be stressed from the outset that this campaign is about safety and not income generation.

"As in previous road safety campaigns, its aim is to effect a change in public attitude to speeding".
