Cornwall Care says the expansion is needed because of the county's growing elderly population.

The charity already provides services to 1,500 people across the county, helping with things such as shopping and meal preparation.

In central Cornwall alone, staff provide 3,000 hours of home care each month. The charity wants to increase that by 10% a year.

Services wanted

The charity's support enables elderly people to live independently in their own homes for longer. It also means they can return home quicker after a stay in hospital.

Cornwall Care Chief Executive Douglas Webb said: "We're in the middle of a 10-year period where we're going to see people aged 85-plus grow by 20%.

"These kind of services are what older people tell us they want to help them stay in their homes, and local authorities are asking us to increase our services all the time."

A roadshow is being held on Lemon Quay in Truro on Wednesday to let people know about the services already available.
