The ban covering the Whitchurch Park area in south Bristol gives police powers to confiscate alcohol, bottles and glasses.

Drinkers who refuse to co-operate could face arrest and a potential £500 fine.

The alcohol free zone - the fourth in Bristol - is due to come into effect on 11 November.

'Key tool'

Other areas covered by bans include Bristol city centre, Stokes Croft and St Judes.

"We have had quite a lot of complaints from members of the public in the Whitchurch Park area about nuisance youths and groups of people of all ages gathering in the area and drinking on the streets and parks," said Pc Ben Dash.

"The ban is a key tool for us to manage anti-social behaviour on the streets of Bristol."

Signs highlighting the ban will be installed around the area to ensure that people are aware of the new powers.
