Town calls time on binge-drinking
All-you-can-drink nights could be banned in a bid to curb binge-drinking in Reading, Berkshire.

Drinks promotions in bars and clubs may be halted, as part of an attempt by the borough council to cut down on alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour.

But the council shake-up of the licensing laws could also see nightspots staying open 24 hours a day.

Landlords and bar managers in the town are currently getting a chance to have their say in questionnaires.

Speaking on BBC Radio Berkshire, Kirsten Willis, a supervisor for the Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service in Reading, said: "One or two calls an hour are alcohol-related on Saturdays.

"Binge-drinking can still go on into the early hours and ambulances are still called out to deal with alcohol-related incidents until 0400.

"Very often some people are affected because their friends cannot look after them if they are too drunk."
