But people living in Leicester have had the fewest wins followed by those in Llandudno, Lancaster and Lincoln.

National Savings and Investments (NS&I) said the City had seen a dramatic turnaround as it was the third unluckiest place just last year.

Last year's luckiest town Oldham is now in 91st place, while Lancaster is now the third unluckiest town after being the third luckiest place in the previous year's survey.

The figures were based on the number of prizes worth more than £1,000 won by people in a town or postal area during the year to the end of February for every million Premium Bonds people in the area held.

Sally Swait, Premium Bonds manager at NS&I, said: "Every Premium Bond has an equal chance of winning a prize.
