Civil baby-naming ceremonies could soon be available in Torbay, under plans being considered by the council.
There are also plans for renewal of marriage vows ceremonies.
A report currently being considered by councillors says baby-naming ceremonies can provide an alternative to christenings or other religious dedications.
The report says research shows that between a third and half of those registering births would be interested in baby-naming ceremonies.
The report also says that local registrars are often asked about marriage reaffirmation ceremonies.
The report concludes that Torbay should start offering the ceremonies and proposes a charge of £160.
