Two wards at a North Yorkshire hospital have been closed to new admissions after an outbreak of Winter Vomiting Disease.
About a dozen people have fallen ill at Harrogate District Hospital since the beginning of the week.
Hospital officials say the wards are unlikely to re-open before the weekend.
Consultant microbiologist Kevin Kerr said: "We have closed the wards until we have a good idea of how far the infection has spread, or is likely to spread.
"Once it appears the infection is on the wane, we will make arrangements for a very thorough cleaning of the ward environment.
"Then if there are no new cases we can re-open the wards to admissions."
The virus causes sickness, diarrhoea and fever and normally lasts from 24 to 48 hours.
