Scene of fire
The cause of the fire is being investigated
A woman has died in a flat fire in Wrexham and a second person is in a serious condition in hospital.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at Napier Square in Hightown during the night.

The blaze began in the lounge area of the first floor flat in the early hours of Monday morning.

The lounge was badly damaged and the flat was engulfed by smoke.

Firefighters retrieved the body of a woman in her 40s and also rescued a man, who is being treated for serious injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is not believed to be suspicious.

Community fire safety officers have been called to the Napier Square area to talk to residents about fire prevention and how to escape a fire.

The officers will also be fitting smoke alarms in people's homes.
