Families on a privately-run travellers' site on the South Shropshire border are facing an uncertain future after councillors refused planning permission to allow it to stay open.
South Shropshire District Council officials are now expected to begin enforcement action to shut down the camp near Ludlow.
Travellers have been occupying the site at Wheatcommon Lane, near Richards Castle, for a number of years.
But a group of local people objected to an application to allow it to continue.
They have raised concerns about noise, health issues, and the unkempt appearance of the site.
Objections were also lodged by Ashford Bowdler Parish Council and a number of other organisations concerned about draining and sewage problems which could lead to pollution of the River Teme.
