Lollipop volunteers celebrate 50 years
The road-crossing service in Bath dates back to 1937

The loyal service of lollipop men and women in the west country was being celebrated on Thursday with a get-together in Keynsham, near Bristol.
The volunteers have been helping children cross our roads for 50 years, although in Bath the service was introduced in 1937.
The early lollipop volunteers took up their positions just as trams were giving way to buses on the roads.
In 2000, staff were given extra powers and allowed to help adults cross too for the first time.
Thousands of children and their parents rely on the service so Keynsham Council decided to throw the party to thank them for their reliability and loyalty.
