Homeless shelter planned for Leicester

The current hostel is not popular
A new hostel for homeless people is being considered for derelict land in Leicestershire.

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council says the current rented hostel for homeless people in the area needs to be replaced.

The council is expected to apply for funding to build the facility on Bennett Way.

Martin Cregg from the council's housing department says a new hostel would make a real difference.

Public consultation

He said the council currently rents a hostel from a private landlord, but it is not popular with some residents.

The new hostel would have training facilities to encourage residents to explore different employment opportunities, he said.

The council is expected to decide soon whether to seek funding for the project.

A public consultation will be held if the council decides to go ahead with the project.
