The money is the unpaid bill for policing football matches at the Walkers Stadium in the city.

But lawyers acting for the police force have told them they will never get the money.

The football club has been in administration since October facing debts of about £50m.

This week, a consortium led by former player and TV presenter Gary Lineker, said it had raised the £4m needed to bring it out of administration.

But a total of £92,000 owed to Leicestershire Constabulary should be written off, lawyers have told the force.

The force said it had a duty to investigate reclaiming the money because it could not be responsible for underwriting a commercial enterprise.

The force says it will now expect to be paid in advance for policing matches.
