Deer cull is postponed
Deer
Deer numbers have increased, it is reported
A deer cull planned to take place on the Norfolk coast has been postponed because of threatened disruption from animal rights activists.

The Forestry Commission has said deer numbers are too high in Bacton and need to be reduced to protect trees and other wildlife.

About 20 protesters threatened to stand in the way of rangers and the cull, due to take place on Monday, has been postponed.

The protesters claim the numbers of deer are small.

But Giles Brockman, of the Forestry Commission, rejects their arguments.

"Deer in East Anglia are very much on the increase," he said.

"We are struggling to maintain the regeneration of trees.

"We need to move in now to try and keep the damage down."
