River deaths court date set
Leeds City Council faces charges over girls' deaths
A judge has adjourned a case in which Leeds City Council is accused of breaching Health and Safety regulations over the deaths of two girls on a school trip.
Pleas are now expected to be formally entered on 27 February before a full trial on 19 March. The city council faces two charges following the deaths of Hannah Black, 13, and Rochelle Cauvet, 14, on a school trip at Stainforth Beck, near Settle in October 2000. The girls were on a "river walk" activity as part of a residential week planned by Royds School in Oulton, Leeds, when tragedy struck. The city council also faces a charge of failing to complete a risk assessment in respect of the activity.
