Both drivers and the only passenger on the number 33 bus were hurt in the accident on Princes Street just before 1300 GMT on Thursday.

They have been taken to Ipswich Hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Fire crews from Princes Street station, who were on the scene within seconds, told BBC Radio Suffolk the bus had been forced off the road in the crash.

Spinal injuries

Sub-officer Dave Collins said: "We were confronted by a bus gone into a wall, with what appeared to be the driver stuck down in the well.

"He appeared to have spinal injuries."

He added that the sole passenger, a woman, had been thrown to the floor in the impact.

The crash led to severe congestion in the town, with traffic diversions in place.
