Householders in Worcestershire are facing a big increase in their council tax to finance improvements in education and public transport.

The predicted 15% increase will mean householders living in Band D properties will have to pay an extra £109.

The council has been told by the government to increase its spending to fund schools, services for the elderly, roads, public transport and libraries.

County councillor Adrian Hardman says the council has two options.

"The options are either not do the work and make cuts such as not grit the roads as often or cut homecare for the elderly.

"Or we can go ahead with our plan which was to steadily and relatively slowly improve education, services for the elderly and roads."

Residents in the area are being asked for their views on the issue before a final decision is made next month.
