Benjamin Brittain, 11, from Melksham, Wiltshire, can even control the sequence of lights.

The lights were donated by a local company after Benjamin's mother wrote explaining her autistic son's needs.

Mother Jayne Brittain said: "We used to spend a lot of time walking to the nearest lights, now we just need to open the curtains."

Peter Hatherell, engineering director at Lux Traffic Controls which donated the lights, said: "It was an unusual request. We have installed systems for the London Underground, Alton Towers and even full race circuits like Castle Combe.

"But this is the first time we have ever built a system for someone's garden."
