National Trust moves house

The National Trust is moving its East Anglian offices from Norfolk to Suffolk to better represent the area it covers.

The Trust had been based at Blickling Hall, near Aylsham in Norfolk, since 1948.

In February, 30 regional staff will move to Angel Corner in Bury St Edmunds, with another 20 at an office on the Ickworth Estate, near the town

Peter Griffiths, the regional director, said: "This region has been enlarged to include Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire and it makes sense to have the regional headquarters much closer to the centre of the region."

"It will be a wrench to leave Blickling", he added.

The move to Angel Corner is temporary until the Trust can find permanent offices in Bury St Edmunds.

The property at Angel Hill is a Queen Anne house which was bequeathed to the Trust 60 years ago, but had been leased to St Edmundsbury Borough Council for offices.
