The Central Derby Primary Care Trust says there has been a 14% improvement in waiting times.

The trust says it has made progress in recruiting more GPs in central Derby, but says it still needs more doctors and nurses.

Latest figures show the percentage of practices which can offer a patient an appointment to see their GP within two working days is now 76%.

This is above the national average.

The average number of days a patient has to wait has fallen to 1.5.

The trust says it is now working towards patients being able to get appointments the same day.

A spokesman for the trust said: "We serve some of the most deprived parts of Derby City where there are high levels of health need.

"The challenge is how to build the capacity of primary care, by, amongst other things, increasing the number of family doctors and nurses.

"We have made real progress in both increasing GP capacity and in redesigning some practice systems to help release capacity."
