The arrests were part of a special operation
Hundreds of people have been arrested after police in Derbyshire launched an operation against burglary and drugs.

Officers have carried out a series of raids during the past week as part of Operation Pumpkin.

More than 280 people have been arrested and drugs and stolen goods valued at £78,000 have been recovered.

Drugs seized included cannabis, amphetamines and ecstasy.

'Significant impact'

In Derby, officers concentrated on tackling break-ins and 35 people have been charged with burglary and car crimes.

A total of 200 people are now facing charges as a result of Operation Pumpkin.

Derbyshire Police say the operation has increased the total number of crimes detected this year to more than 15,500.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Goodwin said: "There are those crimes you can deal with immediately but others require the best use of resources, such as intelligence and evidence.

"We want not just to get an arrest now but secure a conviction later.

"We are confident this will have a significant impact across the county."
