From February 2003, motorists wishing to drive into central London will have to pay a £5 toll under plans put forward by London's mayor Ken Livingstone.

Transport for London (TfL) has organised a roadshow which will tour the London boroughs affected by the charging zone.

It is hoped the show will help people prepare for the charge, especially those who may be eligible for a discount.

Derek Turner, managing director of Transport for London street management, said: "Together with the door-to-door mailing currently taking place across London, these roadshows are a great opportunity for people to get the information they need about congestion charging.

"I would particularly encourage residents eligible for a discount to register as early as possible."

The roadshow begins in Southwark on Wednesday and then visits Camden, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington, Corporation of London, Lambeth and Westminster.
