Members of three unions - Unison, the GMB and the Association of Professional Ambulance Personnel - voted nine to one for action.

Talks between the unions and the Lincolnshire Ambulance Trust broke down without agreement at the end of last week.

It means that action, which will include working to rule and an overtime ban, is expected to take place from 5 November.

Workers are demanding a 6% pay increase.

The Regional Organiser of Unison, Richard Parker, said the result of the ballot now gives a clear go-ahead for the action.

"It is a fantastic result. It does go to show the strength of feeling in the service.

"There was a very high turnout - 85% plus voted - so we do know that staff are both angry and disgusted with the offer that is on the table."

He said the 999 service would be prioritised by managers.

"Our effect will be continuous until such time our members are given the deal they deserve," said.

"Our members have lost patience with their employer - they have been exploited for too long.

"I think nine to one speaks for itself."
