Legionella hospital given all clear
Leicester Royal Infirmary
Women were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary
A hospital maternity unit has been given the all clear after being closed when the bacterium which causes Legionnaires' Disease was found.

The Legionella was discovered in a shower at the Leicester General Hospital on Thursday

The unit was closed and the water system was disinfected overnight.

No women were put at risk, said the hospital, as the affected area had been undergoing refurbishment.

It is the second time in a week that a Leicester hospital has had to sterilise a water supply.

Last Friday the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary was disinfected after a transplant patient contracted a very mild form of the disease.

Women going into labour on Thursday night were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.
