Money is being made available to reduce the dangers from arson, vandalism, theft and trespassers.

Work will include the installation of CCTV systems, fencing, lighting and controlled access systems to buildings.

Among the 20 Leeds schools which will benefit from the security improvements are St Theresa's Primary School in Halton and Castleton Primary School in Armley.

At St Theresa's new security gates and fencing will be fitted.

While Castleton Primary will get CCTV cameras.

The money for these extra measures is coming from the city council.

Councillor Peter Gruen, the council's lead member for education, says: "This funding will give staff and pupils a sense of security and added peace of mind in and around the school buildings and grounds."
