Woman denies murder and arson
Tommy West and his daughter Kimberley
Tommy and Kimberley West died on New Year's Eve
A woman has denied starting a fatal house fire in Manchester in which a man and his seven-year-old daughter died.

Caz Telfer is charged with murder, arson and attempted murder at Manchester Crown Court.

The 41-year-old, of Shawbrook Road, Burnage, Manchester, is alleged to have started the blaze because she craved attention.

Caz Telfer denies setting fire to the house

Tommy West and his daughter Kimberley were killed in the fire at the house in Princess Road, Moss Side, on New Year's Eve 2001.

The prosecution claimed Ms Telfer had been drinking and had taken anti-depressants before starting two fires while the others were asleep.

The first was successfully put out by Mr West but he and his daughter died in the second, while a nine-year-old boy escaped.

Ms Telfer said she did not start the fires and, after helping the boy escape the fire, she tried to get back into the house to save the others.

The trial continues.
