Lorry driver charged after drugs find
A Dutch man has appeared before magistrates in Devon charged with smuggling drugs with a street value of £650,000.

Leunis Rentier, 46, of Schoonhoven, near Rotterdam, pleaded not guilty to charges of smuggling and supplying drugs when he appeared at Exeter magistrates court.

Police found 100 kilos of cannabis resin and 50,000 ecstasy tablets after they stopped a lorry on the A30 road near Okehampton on Wednesday.

Mr Rentier was remanded in custody until 9 May.

Police arrested him during security checks on vehicles on the main road at Whiddon Down.

The checkpoints had been set up because of the Queen's jubilee visit to the area.
