'Reassuring' response to race riot posters
Police have released an eighth poster of suspects
Detectives in Bradford say there has been a good response to their "final push" at identifying those involved in last year's race riots.
More than 100 people have contacted police since images of suspects were made public last week. On Friday, 20 more photographs of those thought to have been involved in the disturbances on 7 July were released. The new poster is the eighth to be released as part of West Yorkshire Police's high profile campaign.
In January, Detective Chief Superintendent Max McLean, who is leading what is currently Britain's largest criminal investigation, said the time had come to draw a line under the riots with a final campaign. Following the publication of 20 images last week, 12 men handed themselves into police, he said. "The response from the people of Bradford has been very reassuring and demonstrates that people do still support this investigation. "Last weekend we received more than 100 calls and some very good information on everybody featured. "We would urge people to keep calling us so we can put the events of last summer behind us." A total of 184 people have now been arrested in connection with the riots and many have already been dealt with by the courts. On Thursday, a 22-year-old man from Bradford was jailed for five years at Bradford Crown Court after admitting taking part in the riot. He was filmed throwing stones at police at the height of the disturbances. |
