Lollipop lady's top prize
Shirley Gates- Mutton and Abigail Burford
Pupil Abigail Burford wrote a poem singing the praises of Shirley Gates-Mutton
A school lollipop lady has won a holiday to Barbados after being nominated for a competition by a pupil.

Shirley Gates-Mutton was entered for the Lollipop Person of the Year by Abigail Burford, a pupil at Oldfield Park Junior School in Bath.

She was chosen from more than 1,000 entrants to take the title at College Green, outside the Houses of Parliament, in London on Wednesday.

Mrs Gates-Mutton, 40, said she was amazed to have won, and added: "I am the very first and very last contact the kids have with school each day."

As well as her lollipop lady duties, Mrs Gates-Mutton works as a special needs support teacher, a clerical assistant and a school meals supervisor.

She is an active member of the parent teacher association, a school governor and fundraiser.
