The convicted student has been given a chance to pass his exams
|
A French student will be particularly keen to perform well in his exams next months - as failure will put him in prison.
This serious consequence follows a deal struck by his defence lawyer - after the 20-year-old student was convicted of dealing in cannabis.
The student, from Roubaix in north-eastern France, will stay out of prison if he passes his exams.
Otherwise he faces the court's penalty of five months imprisonment.
High-stakes test
The setting of this high-stakes academic test followed a plea from the defence lawyer - accepted by the court - that rather than carrying out the prison sentence, the student should be given the chance to pass his exams and continue with his education.
