Teacher 'attacked with chair'

The teacher was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary

A disciplinary hearing is to be held to decide the future of a seven-year old schoolboy who allegedly hit a teacher with a chair.

The teacher, Kirsteen MacGregor, was taken to hospital after an incident at Tulloch Primary School in Perthshire. She was later released.

The boy, a Primary 3 pupil, has already been excluded from the school on a temporary basis and a disciplinary hearing is to be held to decide whether to expel him. He has not been named.

A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council said the review hearing would be attended by the school headteacher and the boy's parents.

Mrs McGregor was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary suffering from chest pains following the incident on Monday.

Tino Ferri, of the National Association of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers, has called for the boy's expulsion.

"This boy must be seen to be punished otherwise there could be copycat cases," she said. "If action is taken then it may discourage others.

"Teachers have a right to feel safe and it is the obligation of employers to provide a healthy and safe working environment."
